Canvas Stretching
The Framing Source has stretched over 20,000 canvases since opening in 1998. Canvas stretching is one of our core specialties and we have refined the process over nearly three decades of daily production work.
Every canvas job starts with precise measurements. We then build custom stretcher bars using the highest grade products available on the market. All frames are cut to exact specifications, glue joined at the corners, and braced where needed to keep them strong and true over time.
Stretcher Bar Options
We offer two standard stretcher bar profiles. Our 1 1/2 inch gallery bars are the most popular choice for gallery wrap presentations where the canvas wraps around the sides of the frame. We also carry 3/4 inch standard bars for canvases that will be placed inside a traditional frame.
Gallery Wrap and Museum Wrap
For the stretch itself, we offer both mirror wrap and museum wrap techniques. Mirror wrap folds the image around the edges so the artwork continues on the sides. Museum wrap keeps the image on the face only and folds blank canvas around the sides. Both methods use staples on the back for a clean finished look.
Large Format Capabilities
Artists working on large scale pieces will appreciate our capacity. We can build stretcher bars and stretch canvases up to 18 feet in length. We also carry 12 ounce acrylic primed canvas in custom sizes for artists who need raw material before they start painting.
Our large volume buying power keeps pricing competitive and ensures materials are always in stock. Most canvas stretching jobs are completed within a few days.
